Petite Chérie

A couple of weeks ago I got the chance to work with Melissa Wenger (San Diego based photographer!) and a group of beautiful models. The location was Fiesta Island in San Diego which is stunning. The styling is very bright and fun, which pretty much reflects the spring season. As for make-up looks I'll be featuring, they're very different; one is sultry and glamorous, the other one is fresh and femenine. I'll be showing you the techniques and products I used to create these wonderful looks, ENJOY!


LOOK #1 - Soft Cut-Crease
Monica, has a beautiful soft cut-crease (A bold definition of the crease) with gold and brown eyeshadow. The rest of her face is lightly contoured and her lips have just a hint of pink.

Create a nice golden base color, applying it on the lid only! Then, with a small eyeliner brush draw your crease, it may seem a little harsh but it helps give the cut-crease effect. Once you have the shape you want, smoke it outwards. Finish it off with some mascara and highlighter on the inner corner/brow bone.







LOOK #2 - Pink Highlight
Reno's look is lighter; it's all about highlighting and nice pink tones all over. Spring should be a "skin-vacation" from all the smokey eyes and bright lips from Winter.

La primavera empieza en unos días! Aquí tengo varios looks de primavera inspirados de las pasarelas con un aspecto mas casual. 

Well defined!
Paulina's look is all about definition. A well defined eye face and a flesh toned lip color.
El look de Paulina tiene como enfoque la definición. Los ojos y el rosto bien definidos junto con un color de labio natural.

Smoked up!
Miriam's look features a very soft yet dark smokey eye. A mix of chocolate brown, bronze and slate color eyeshadows paired with a pink tone lip color.
El look de Miriam incluye un ahumado suave pero oscuro. Una mezcla sombras color café chocolate, bronce y gris oscuro con un toque de rosa en los labios.

Pop of color!
Emerald is the color of the year, why not celebrate it by ditching your black eyeliner with a nice graphic emerald lined eye like Valeria? Remember to keep the lips simple.
El color esmeralda es el color del año. Por qué no te deshaces de tu delineador negro y usas una sombra color esmeralda para hacer un delineado gráfico como Valeria? Recuerda de usar un color de labios natural.

Soft kiss!
Karla is ready for spring with a beautiful soft red-color lipstick and a bright natural eye look. 
Karla esta lista para la primavera con un labial rojo muy suave y un ojo con mucho brillo. 

Soft smoke!
Scared of a strong smokey eye? Karina has a more natural smokey eye that is closer to the eye, which makes her eyes look bigger. Don't forget to add plenty of mascara!
Te intimidan los ahumados? Karina tiene un ahumado mas natural que esta mas cerca del ojo, que de echo hace que sean mas grandes. Que no se te olvide ponerte suficiente máscara!

Next to skin care, the most fundamental part of make-up are the brushes. You can have the fanciest eyeshadow palette, but without the proper brushes, you're not gonna get the most out of them. So, in this new post I'll be showing you what are the must-have brushes and what they're for! What's the best thing? All the brushes I own are synthetic so they're cruelty-free!

Después del cuidado de la piel, las brochas son lo mas fundamental del maquillaje. Puedes tener las mejores sombras del mercado, pero sin las brochas correctas no te van a servir muy bien. En este nuevo blog te voy a enseñar lo básico de las brochas y para que son! Lo mejor de las brochas que uso es que son sintéticas, por lo tanto son libres de crueldad de animales!

FOUNDATION/BASE

There are so many foundation brushes these days, but which one? Easy! my favorite brushes are what they call the "buffing" brushes, these brushes blend foundation flawlessly with little to no effort. Another favorite: the "stippling" brushes, the bristles are so light and separated that they leave a very natural finish. Which brush should you get? The more coverage you need the denser your brush; in this case, the buffing brush. For less coverage use the stippling brush.

El mercado esta repleto de brochas para la base de maquillaje; puede ser una confusion a la hora de ir a comprar una. Cual escoger? En mi opinión, la brocha mas efectiva es la brocha "buffing" o como se diría en español "pulidora", estas brochas normalmente son como un kabuki cortado por la parte de arriba. Como funciona? Muy simple, las cerdas están tan comprimidas que a la hora de aplicar la base, se aplica uniformemente y ligeramente. El acabado de tu base va ser muy natural. Otra de mis favoritas es la brocha "stippling" o como se diría en español, la brocha para "puntear". Estas brochas normalmente tienen las cerdas muy separadas, así es que tienes que golpear con la brocha para tener un acabo muy natural. Estas dos son muy buenas; si quieres mas cobertura te recomiendo la pulidora.

CONCEALER/CORRECCIÓN

Concealing brushes are so misunderstood. I actually always end up using them as eyeshadow brushes because that's how most of them are shaped like. For precision concealing (i.e. acne) I recommend eyeliner brushes; Yes! eyeliner brushes, why? Because they're very precise and they give you the ability to build up the coverage. For under-eye concealing I actually recommend those foundation brushes that are paddle-shaped, they're mostly very small so they allow you to apply a good amount under the eye and the size helps blend the concealer away!

Las brochas mal etiquetadas son las brochas para el corrector, yo siempre termino usándolas para las sombras y uso brochas para delinear para el corrector. Porque? Las brochas para el delineador te dan mas control y precisión (Por ejemplo para cubrir el acné). Ahora, la brocha perfecta para aplicar el corrector abajo de los ojos es la brocha para la base. Este tipo de brocha normalmente es pequeña y larga, por lo tanto puedes aplicar con mucha facilidad debajo de los ojos!

EYESHADOW/SOMBRA

There are so many eyeshadow brushes that it's incredibly difficult to buy just one. When it comes to building up your eyeshadow brush collection I recommend only three basic brushes; each brush has a purpose so they will help you achieve pretty much any eye look. First; A regular "shadow" brush (This brush is paddle shaped, the longer the better), this will help you pack on the base-color all over the eye. Second; A "crease" brush (This brush is shaped like a pencil eraser, some might even be tapered), this will help you define the crease with a darker shadow, for a defined eye or even a sultry smokey. Third; The "blending" brush, (This is like a very small powder brush) It's used to blend rough edges and smooth down the eye look, it's an essential for finishing the look. And there you go, with these three basic brushes you'll be able to create any eye look. 

Las sombras de ojo tienen una gran variedad de brochas, demaciadas! Si estas empezando a comprar brochas, te recomiendo 3; con estas vas a poder hacer cualquier look. 1: La brocha tipica para sombra, a esta le llaman "eyeshadow brush", esta sirve muy bien para aplicar la sombra en todo el ojo, especialmente el parpado. 2: La brocha para la cuenca, esta normalmente tiene la forma como de un borrador de lapiz; se usa para definir el ojo, perfecta para un ahumado! 3: La brocha para difuminar, normalmente es muy grande y se usa para difuminar los bordes de la sombra, etc. Listo! Con estas tres puedes hacer cualquier look y de ahi puedes ver que otras brochas puedes añadirle a tu coleccion sin presion.

FACE/ROSTRO
The most leeway is probably in the category of face brushes, most brush shapes are similar but it is good to know which ones to aim for. With face brushes I only recommend two; 1. Your powder brush (I actually prefer 'blush' brushes for powder) The reason you want to use a small blush brush for powder is because you don't want to pick-up a ton of powder and mess up your foundation. The size of this will help you keep things very neat. 2. A tapered brush for blush, highlighter and bronzer. The best thing about a tapered brush is that you can use the side for highlighter application, the tip for contouring/bronzer and the entire brush for blush application. Don't be fooled by the angled brushes or the "blush" brushes, the tapered brushes will do the job.

La categoría con mas libertad es la categoría de brochas para el rostro. Casi todas las brochas tienen un parecido pero les voy a recomendar solo dos brochas, ya que con estas pueden hacer todo. 1: La brocha para el polvo de preferencia que sea una pequeña (como las brochas para el rubor) ya que si usas una brocha pequeña para el polvo, tienes mas control y tu base no se va ver acartonada con tanto polvo. 2: La brocha multiusos, con esta vas a poder aplicar el rubor, contorno/bronceador y el iluminador. A esta le llaman "tapered" o sea que tiene una forma ahusada que te da la facilidad de poder usar la punta o los lados. Recomiendo aplicar el contorno/bronceador y el iluminador con la punta: el rubor con los lados. Es como tener 3 brochas en 1! (Recomiendo que empieces con el rubor luego el contorno y al final el iluminador, para prevenir errores)

Como resaltar los ojos / How to emphasize the eys

Para muchas chicas lo mas importante (en el maquillaje) es agrandar los ojos. En esta nueva publicación vas aprender a resaltar tus ojos! Tips muy simples con resultados grandes.

In makeup, one of the most emphasized part of the face is the eyes. In this new post, you'll learn how to make your eyes 'POP!'. Simple tips with an amazing result.

• La forma de tu sombra es lo mas importante: si corres la sombra para el área superior de tu ojo, tus ojos se van a ver mas abiertos y te vas a ver más despierta! Si corres la sombra para los lados con una forma cat-eye (como en la foto!) se van a ver mas anchos.
• The shape of your eyeshadow is the most important: eyeshadow on the upper area of your eye will make your eyes appear bigger and more awake. Also, if you run your eyeshadow to the sides in a cat-shape, the wider they will look. Nice huh?

• Añade dimensión a tus ojos con una sombra clara brillosa en la parte inferior de tu párpado y el lagrimal (Yo use un tono bronce con un poco de dorado). Dale profundidad a tus ojos usando una sombra oscura en la cuenca del ojo y al lado exterior del párpado (Yo use un tono café mate) (Trata de usar una sombra oscura mate, le va a dar dimensión al ojo!)
• Give dimension to your eyes by adding a shimmer bright eyeshadow to the inner corner and lower lid of the eye (I used a bronze shadow). Give depth to your eye by using a darker shadow on your crease and the outer half of your eye (I used a matte chocolate brown)  (Keeping the dark shadow matte, this will add more dimension!)

Eso es todo! Con estos tips tus ojos se van a ver mas grandes y van a resaltar. No olvides delinear y usar mascara. 

That's it! With these tips your eyes will appear bigger and they will stand out. Don't forget to line the eyes and use mascara.
